First of all, I want to say thanks for being here. No matter where you are in life, by just being here you are doing something positive for your financial present and future. It doesn’t matter if you are dead broke or on your way, Money Simplified will help you become financially secure and grow your money.
When I got out of undergrad and got my first real job, I didn’t know what to do with the money I was finally making. Sure, I had a savings account, but no matter how much I put into my savings, I constantly dipped into it to make it through the month. I finally gave up and stopped putting money into my savings account and went paycheck to paycheck like most of the world.
And as I advanced and started making more money, the cycle continued and I still lived month to month. Sure, I had nicer things and traveled more, but I was living with anxiety and frustration. I wanted out of the cycle.
That’s when I realized that I had the intent but not the knowledge. And I realized I knew more about corporate finance more than my own personal finance. It made me feel stupid and angry. And it also made me realize that it wasn’t totally my fault. Not really.
The school system fails us when it comes to personal finance.
At least it failed me. Sure, I knew how to write a check, and I knew that it was smart to save money, but I didn’t know the tools and resources I should use to have a solid financial standing. I even left university without those skills and tools. And I left with a ton of debt and two credit cards burning a hole in my pocket. I later found that this is the norm.
So, I made it my quest to find everything out that I could about money. I even got an MBA to understand the system even more.
Personal finance and financial literacy is intimidating.
We are bombarded by ads we don’t understand about products that we “have to have” or we’ll die broke and alone. We see movies and television shows that espouse the world of the rich, and the characters are always incredibly smart or corrupted.
We want to be financially secure – financially independent – but we don’t know where to start. We are intimidated, so we tell ourselves we can’t learn this money stuff, and we fail to act.
But, and you have to trust me on this, personal finance is simple. Money is simple. You just have to cut through all the clutter and make smart decisions based on fact.
That’s where Money Simplified comes in. I want to share all the knowledge and tools you need to be financially independent in a simple, unintimidating way. I want to pass on knowledge and action so you will have the skills you need to succeed.
The articles and tools on this website are straightforward and uncomplicated. Becoming wealthy is not complicated. It does take work, determination and patience, but it’s not complicated if you don’t make it complicated.
I try and make sure the articles are short, yet packed full of information. I also make sure they are easy to read and hopefully fun. Yes, learning about money can be fun. And believe me, making, keeping, and growing your money is totally fun!
